Cascadia Underground is excited to welcome Building Your Cascadia as a new monthly segment to provide insights and examples of working democratic economies, and explore ideas about what sorts of systems we all want to create for ourselves as Cascadians.

Your Cascadia Economic Direct Democracy

Building Your Cascadia

Building Your Cascadia is in connection with the YourCascadia project, which aims to build an interface for people across the bioregion to co-create a more responsible economy through direct democracy. Other topics of discussion we’ll cover here include universal basic income, cryptocurrencies, effective nonprofit solutions, participatory budgeting, voting structures, the sharing economy, disruptive technologies, gamification, and plenty of other such ideas that this project intends to breathe life into.

The aim of Building Your Cascadia is to expound on these ideas in more detail, and spark discussion within the Cascadia Underground community in a series of blog posts. We want all voices to be heard and respected, so we can ultimately have a system for everyone.

We have an initial design in mind for the user interface of this type of system. As a “meta-platform,” we encourage discussion regarding other possible models, so we can debate and experiment to find what works best. Cascadia is a grassroots movement, driven by your passions and ideas. Please share the vision of Your Cascadia with us, and we’ll see what we can do together!

Your Cascadia currently has five Working Groups including – Ideas/Debate team, Organization/Outreach group, Development unit, Fundraising squad, and Media/Content crew. If you would like to get involved – don’t hesitate to reach out. Fundraising and Media teams will be particularly important over the next couple of months in preparation for the fundraising campaign we’ll be starting in October 2018.
