Rally & Hearing: Edmonds Resolution to Ban Oil/Coal Trains (Edmonds)

A rally will be held at the park just south of the Edmonds Ferry Terminal on Railroad Avenue beginning at 5:30pm. A march to the city council building will begin at 6:10 with speakers and music at arrival at the Council building at 6:00. Council meeting begins at 7:00pm with public comment period beginning at about 7:30.

Those in attendance will be demonstrating support for Edmonds City Council members who have proposed resolutions to ban dangerous oil and coal trains. The recent oil train derailment and resulting fire in Mosier OR once again prove that transporting fossil fuels by rail is inherently dangerous and poses immense risks to rail communities like Edmonds.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: Upon arrival at Council Building make sure to immediately go inside to sign-up for public comments period.
Bring a written version of your comments to leave with the council clerk.
Limit your comments to 3 minutes and use your time to specifically address aspects of the proposed resolutions, available on City of Edmonds web-site .
It’s recommended that you state your name and where you live. Thank the Mayor and Council for the opportunity to voice your concerns and opinions. Consider asking the Mayor and Council to be courageous in the face of well-funded opposition by taking a stand for the safety of the Edmonds community, other rail-communities and for all that we cherish that is at risk due to climate change by voting YES on proposed resolutions. Using real statistics about derailments and explosions also strengthens your comments.
