Hear from two climate activists who were each in Paris for the Climate Summit—one who was an observer inside the conference hall and and the other who was an activist on the streets outside. Learn what it was like to be so near the epicenter as the landmark climate agreement was being reached.
Bill McPherson, the “inside” man at the Summit, had credentials that allowed him to observe the plenary sessions during the second week that were open to observers. Previously Bill worked for six years at the Earth Negotiations Bulletin and 21 years as a foreign service officer in Washington (D.C.), Tokyo, and Geneva, where he was the U.S. liaison with the World Meteorological Organization and the IPCC.
Carlo Voli was an “outside” activist on the streets of Paris during the Summit. He is a leader in Seattle’s climate activism community and a local Community Supported Organizer through the Backbone Campaign CSO program. Carlo co-founded Rising Tide Seattle and 350Seattle and coordinates 350Seattle’s Keep It in the Ground workgroup. He will share some interesting adventures from his days in Paris where he helped mobilize grassroots support for indigenous peoples, women, and the global South.
