Premiere performance by the five-piece Nelda Swiggett Stringtet of Swiggett’s “Alaska Suite: A Story of Beauty, Loss and Hope.” An acclaimed jazz musician, Swiggett uses music and narration to explore the dramatic effects of climate change in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, and what we can do about it. Sponsored by Seattle First Baptist Church and Interfaith Climate Action – First Hill, a collaboration between Bet Alef Meditative Synagogue and Seattle First Baptist Church.
Swiggett is concerned about our future in the face of human-caused climate change. Her work focuses on Alaska because it’s a region that’s heated up faster than most of Earth, so we can see what’s in store for us if we don’t quickly kick our addiction to oil, coal and natural gas. Each musical section is preceded by narration about how Alaska and our own area are changing, and what we can do about it.
