When You speak for Forests and Murrelets, You Speak for the Climate.

Washington Environmental Council encourages public attendance and comments at DNR hearings to protect the marbled Murrelets, by up-listing it from threatened to endangered, which will help them recover their diminishing population and the old growth habitat they need and that is needed for mitigating climate change.

Protecting large trees helps protect climate. Large trees logged=FAR less carbon stored (tree-planting is important too, but a large tree captures more than a little seedling can). Protecting marbled murrelets means protecting large trees. So please come out and speak for the little bird who is our “canary” in this world that has too many coal mines!

Besides this hearing in Seattle, there will be hearings in Sedro Woolley (1/10), Port Angeles (1/17) and Cathlamet (1/19). For details click here.

There will also be a pre-hearing info-session at 4:30 at Naked City Brewery, 8564 Greenwood Ave N. Or you can come to Whitman Middle School a bit early, at 5:30 pm, to share ideas about what to say. Sample comments are on the Seattle Audubon website.
