Vashon Supports Honor the Earth: An Evening with Winona LaDuke @ Open Space for Arts & Community | Vashon | Washington | United States

Please join us in welcoming internationally renowned activist, environmentalist, and farmer, Winona LaDuke to Vashon! Enjoy a festive evening with live music and an uplifting talk by Winona LaDuke and local indigenous leaders as we gather to raise money for her organization, Honor the Earth. New!

On Site Childcare Provided by Donation! 6:30-9. All proceeds go to Honor the Earth.

The evening will include diverse and inspiring music and visual arts. Paul “Che oke ten” Wagner will offer songs on the Native American flute. Some’tet, an improvisational Vashon jazz ensemble, will offer a musical welcome to Winona. After hearing from LaDuke, the evening will evolve into an after party led by Seattle-based art & music collective subMerge, who pairs house, techno, and electronica with visual and textile arts.

Welcome Winona LaDuke to Vashon!

Winona is an internationally-acclaimed leader on indigenous environmental justice issues, which she balances by leading on-the-ground initiatives that support restorative economies, land rights, renewable energy and local food systems. A graduate of Harvard and Antioch, Winona has lived and worked on the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota for decades, and was a two time vice presidential candidate with Ralph Nader for the Green Party. Today, she is growing Winona’s Hemp and Heritage Farm into a viable, post-petroleum, agricultural enterprise.

Honor the Earth, http://www.honorearth.org/ started by Winona in 1993 to support indigenous environmental justice, is currently fighting the construction of a Tar Sands oil pipeline routed through the land and waters of northern Minnesota, including the White Earth Reservation and the headwaters of the Mississippi River.

We are incredibly honored to have Winona LaDuke come and brin her inspiring message to the region. Multiple organizations on Vashon are working hand in hand to make this special event possible, all in support of Honor the Earth. Please join us for the camaraderie and festivities!
