Join 350 Seattle, in partnership with Stand.earth, in telling Carnival Cruise Lines to clean up their #DirtyShips! The shipping and cruise industry use Heavy Fuel Oil to power their ships. This oil, made from the literal bottom of the barrel, is far more toxic than other fuel. In a spill, it is impossible to clean up. The black carbon emitted from the ship is hazardous to human health and speeds up the melting of glaciers. You can find out more about this campaign here: https://www.stand.earth/carnivalreport

ABOUT THE ACTION:
We will be doing a three part action to share information with Carnival passengers and send a message to Carnival that they need to clean up their act!

Phase 1, 10:30 am – 12 pm: (end time flexible):
Go to Pier 91 and pass out information and hold banners, raise awareness. This group will gather at 10:30 am at a designated meeting place for an 11:30 am deployment. NOTE: If you cannot make the meeting time for this portion, there are other parts of the day you can join! Because we need to shuttle the team into the Pier, it is not possible to join this portion after deployment.

Phase 2, 12 pm – 2:30 pm, :
Hold banners at visible points leading up to the cruise terminal.

Phase 3, 3 pm – 4:30 pm:
Beach party banner/speak-out!
We’ll be meeting at Smith Cove Park for the final phase of the action. We have a really large banner that they can see from the ship, and a megaphone to speak out against Carnival and Heavy Fuel Oil.

Invite your friends! Form an affinity group! Options exist for street theater and action teams to work together. For more information or to join the coordinating team, please email kara(at)350Seattle(dot)org.
