Peter Berg was one of the leading advocates of bioregionalism and is widely acknowledged as an originator of the terms bioregion and re-inhabitation which he used to describe land areas in terms of their interdependent plant, animal, and human life. He was also the founder of the Planet Drum Foundation which works to research, promote, and disseminate information about bioregionalism.
After passed away in 2011, Cheryll Glotfelty and Eve Quesnel compiled The Biosphere and the Bioregion: Essential Writings of Peter Berg in order to make the bioregional works created by Peter Berg readily available as an educational tool for the public. This book consists of carefully selected books, essays, and interviews that are authored by Berg that relate to his vision of using bioregions as the best location and scale for sustaining human and non-human life.
